Trailer:

Plot:

Halloween 2 picks up immediately after the first movie. Michael Myers has vanished after falling from the second story window and Dr. Loomis is on the hunt for him.
The police and paramedics arrive at the house to find all of Mikey's handy work from the night’s massacre.

Laurie is transported to the local hospital for treatment of her injuries while Dr. Loomis and Sheriff Brackett continue their search for Mikey. The two of them patrol the streets but have a hard time as they compete with pockets of Halloween costume dressed up children still Trick or Treating. Little do they know, Mikey has already tracked Laurie to the local hospital and is en route.

Once Mikey catches up with her, he picks off the unsuspecting short handed hospital staff one by one during his search for Laurie. But why is Mikey so obsessed with Laurie? Well this film finally answers the million dollar question that we've all been waiting for.

Meanwhile, at the request of Smith's Grove Mental Institute, the state governor orders Dr. Loomis to pack up his search and immediately leave town. Accompained by an U.S. Marshall and another key staff member from Smith’s Grove, Dr. Loomis is escorted out of town.

During the car ride out, the staff member reveals to Dr. Loomis that Laurie is Michael’s kid sister. Oh No! Not as shocking as “I am your father” from another movie a year earlier but everything is starting to make sense.

Dr. Loomis pulls a gun on the U.S. Marshall and threatens him back to turn around and take him to the hospital. When they arrive, the staff is all killed and Laurie is trying to escape from Mikey. After a series of events, Dr. Loomis, Laurie and Mikey square off in the hospital. Dr. Loomis shoots an oxygen tank, blowing up Mikey and him as Laurie escapes.

Villain:

Halloween features the return of "The Shape" a.k.a. Michael Myers. Mikey's played by actor Dick Warlock in the film. Wow. That's an awesome name for a dude playing a villain.

We finally learn the truth to Mikey's obsession with his sister Laurie. Mikey stops at nothing to persue her to the end. He uses many hospital gadgets to dispense of his victims in the film.

Cast:

Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie Strode, but it is in a limited role. She's still the featured girl, but Laurie is pretty much drugged up and sleeping on a hospital bed through out the movie. She eventually wakes up and gives a five minute escape performance, but don't expect to see a whole lot of her. But I'm guessing that she still got paid pretty good to lay in bed all movie. Must be rough.

Halloween 2 introduces Laurie's school-girl-crush-heart-throb boyfriend is Jimmy. Jimmy is played by actor Lance Guest. Who? You
know…dude from the Last Star Fighter movie and Jaws 4...yes one of sh*tty ones or the Bahamas one with Mario Van Peebles. Jimmy's somewhat of a likable character who is an ambulance driver that takes her to the hospital and waits by her side (when possible) while she heals and recovers.

Donald Pleasence returns as the know-it-all but can’t-do-anything-about-it Dr. Loomis. He's still obsessed with catching the "devil" (Mikey). Pleasence puts out an "Oh my gosh" we need to catch him or the world is going to end" over the top performance. But we still love him for it.

SFX/Gore:

During the first two Halloween movies there were a reported 16 deaths during the Mikey Rampage. The first Halloween had five deaths, so using simple math...Part 2 should have the remaining 11. I only counted 9 deaths. Oh well. There might have been some off screen cannon fodder or implied deaths.

My favorite death in the film was the whirlpool (therapy pool) death. *** Highlight to Read *** An EMS ambulance driver, Budd, and nurse, Karen, had just gotten through a session of Bump N' Grind in the hospital's therapy pool. The pool's temperature had just risen a few degrees...Mikey may have done something with that...and Budd leaves the pool to turn down the pool's temperature in the next room. Karen stays behind and is relaxing in the therapy pool as Budd gets murdered in the next room by Mikey. Mikey sneaks in the room and attacks Karen which leads to her getting dunked in the pool and scalded to death. *** End.

TNA:

Halloween 2 did the right thing and brought the TNA section up a notch. There were five hot chicks (Shark Factor) in the film. The film included a pretty good therapy pool sex scene that included boobies...and death. Hell Yeah!

O
n a side note, I always had a crush on actress Ana Alicia who plays Janet in the film. She also a a guest appearance on another one of my childhood favorite series...Battlestar Galactica. It was too bad that she didn’t show anything nuditywise and eventually died a horrible death. Boo! Here's a BSG picture of Ana (pictured right) Don't you love a girl with a gun?

T.Gun's Take:

Halloween 2 was a nice sequel story which upped’ the body count and brought in a whole brother-must-kill-sister relationship in the franchise. Still not as shocking as the twist in Empire Strikes Back, but nothing can top that. It gives the franchise a storyline to work with for the next ump-teenth sequels.

Halloween 2 uses the simple sequel formula equations of TNA, more deaths and more villain face time. Honestly it a mindless slasher flick that offers very little to the franchise outside of the Mikey-Laurie connection.

But that doesn't stop that from me hating it! I like this movie the best out of all of the original Halloween movies. I don’t know why...but I love sitting down to watch it more than any of the others. I know the original was made well and is still a far more superior flick, but I like this one. Maybe it’s because of the higher death count or the cool idea of slaughtering unsuspecting hospital staff.

On the topic of hospitals in horror movies...is it me or do they always find the most unlit and understaffed hospitals to portray in horror films? Usually hospitals are pretty well lit and busy, but in horror movies (like Halloween 2) it's dark and gleamy with no one to be found what so ever.

Misc. Movie Trivia:
- Halloween 2 opened on October 30, 1981 and made $25.5 million at the Box Office ($7.4 opening weekend)
- Film shot at Morningside Hospital & Pasadena Community Hospital in L.A. and Pasadena
- Dana Carvey made his acting debut in the movie
- Halloween director, John Carpenter was brought in to re-shoot/edit scenes to make the film more scary and bloodier
- There are two versions of the film that are occassionally aired, the theatrical cut and the "Rick Rosenthal Cut"

Review #32: Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (1982)

Cast/Notable Credits:
Tommy Lee Wallace (Director): Fright Night 2 (1988), IT (1990)

Ralph Strait (Buddy): Beastmaster (1982)

Stacey Nelkin (Elle): The Jerk 2 (1984), Yellowbeard (1983)

Nancy Loomis-Kyes (Linda):
Halloween , The Fog (1980), Assault of Precinct 13 (1976)

Tom Atkins (Dr. Challis): The Fog (1980), Escape from NY (1981), Creepshow (1982), Night of the Creeps (1986), Maniac Cop (1988), Striking Distance (1993), My Bloody Valentine

Trailer:

I decided to start writing my movie reviews without using much cursing, so I picked this one to start off with...and it was a bad choice to stop.

In Halloween 3, Michael Myers, scratch that no Mikey…wait a second, no Michael Myers? Okay, Dr. Loomis…oops, no Dr. Loomis…Laurie Strode…nope, no Laurie. Then who the hell is in the film? Dr. Dan Challis.

Who? Beats me, but anyway, in Halloween 3…okay I can’t do this…f*ck it…this is a piece of sh*t! No Mikey! No Dro. Loomis! Not even a Laurie! WTF!

How is this a HALLOWEEN movie? Or better yet, why is it the third installment of the franchise? None of the characters from the first two films are in it. So much for the not cursing part of the review.

If no one returns to this film, so what is it about then?

A Halloween mask company are developing and manufacturing masks to kill children on Halloween. Wait...no Mikey? So why is it called HALLOWEEN 3???? Com’ on people, get your head out of your asses and call it something else, like:

The Killer Mask

Attack of the Halloween Mask

Invasion of the Halloween Mask

Or

Halloween 3: This has nothing to do with Michael Myers or any one else, we just want your money

Anyway, Dr. Dan Challis comes across a patient hurt in an attack. The patient is murdered by a mysterious man while recovering in the hospital. The patient’s daughter (Elle) starts a quest to find the killer of her father, and enlists Dr. Dan for help.

The two of them track down her father’s last days to a small town in Northern California named Santa Mira, home of a Halloween mask factory...The Silver Shamrock Corporation. Dan and Elle show up in the odd little town and eventually learn the evil plot of the company…to sacrifice kids for celestial purposes.

The company's CEO has taken the blue rock from the Stonehedge monument and is using its power along with computers to turn the Halloween masks the company produces into a killing machine. Triggered by an annoying commercial (played many, many times through out the movie) a computer chip activates and kills who ever is wearing the mask. The mask crushes the skull, and insects and snakes pour out of the body. Holy Sh*t, this is some pretty f'd up sh*t they're trying to pass on the audience here.

If I haven't established that this movie probably shouldn’t have been called Halloween 3 then let me go on the record. It shouldn't have been called Halloween 3. There...it's official now. I'm not going to call it Halloween 3 anymore, so I'll call it H3. Please Rob Zombie...don't call your third sequel to Halloween, H3. I know nothing's out yet, but eventually they'll get up to that point.

H3 might have made it successfully on it’s own with a different name. The title itself gets all the horror geeks excited to see Mikey once again. Halloween equals Mikey.

John Carpenter (owner of Halloween) thought it would be a good idea to make a stand-alone movie every Halloween about some different evil Halloween tale. That's a good idea, but DON’T use the franchise name especially after having the second one feature the bad guy from the first. You're just toying with the audience now.

The box office receipts backed up the fans disappointment as the movie tanked in theaters and has been ridiculed through out time. At least the next Halloween movie brings back Mikey to the screen. And everyone’s happy once again.

Villain:

No Mikey, but instead we get a bunch of Halloween mask satanic devil worshipers (SDW's) creating masks to sacrifice people. BULL SH*T! The three killer mask (Pictured right) consists of a Jack-o-lantern, Ghost, and a Witch mask.

Cast:

I was extremely disappointed with this film, so nobody in the cast really appealed to me. Except maybe Elle...if she would have got naked. Tom Atkins plays the main guy, Dr. C in the film. He's a great horror movie bit-part actor. He stars as the cop in the movie, Night of the Creeps.

SFX/Gore:

I give the film credit, they do score nine deaths but the majority of them sucked. H3 also had some big time cheesy special effects involved in the film...yes, I'm looking at you SDW scene at the end.

There were a couple Michael Bay explosions in the film...ah yes, the master would be proud. There's nothing better than "FIRE!"

When the halloween masks melted...or whatever they called it...and possessed the host, a bunch of creepy crawlers came out. It was good, but really puzzling. How do creepy crawlers come out of the human head?

TNA:

H3 gave us three hot chicks (Shark Factor), no boobies, a shower scene, some bondage, and a sex act. It was like a heartbeat of excitement and disappointment.

And it did probably give out the best and funniest line ever. Dr. Dan just had sex with Elle and then he ponders the question, “How old are you?” That’s freakin' awesome! Have sex first with the chick and then worry about her age later. What a brilliant idea. Shark: is that a line of defense just in case things don't turn out the way they should?

T.Gun's Take:

If it wasn’t for the fact that they tried playing this off as Halloween 3, the movie didn’t have that bad of an idea. A lot of whacked ideas in the movie (robots, Stonehedge rocks, just to name a few). And just a piece of good advice:

If you’re taking a tour of a mask factory and you see all the steps to making the mask EXCEPT for the “final processing” (which happens to be in a secured location that is not accessable to common folk) you might want to skip town. Just some good horror movie surviving advice from me. You never know when they'll lure you into a room for a free "testing" of the mask.

No Mikey! WTF? I can’t believe I wasted this much time talking about this movie.

Misc. Movie Trivia:
-Halloween 3 opened 10/22/82 and made $14.4 million at the box office ($6.3 opening weekend)
-Jamie Lee Curtis is the voice of the town’s curfew recording
-Nance Loomis-Kyes played Annie in original Halloween; she plays a completely different character in this movie.

Friday the 13th Part 4

Carmen Filip (Jack): Alligator 2 (1991), Beverly Hill Billies (1993)

Trailer:

Plot:

Ten years after his Haddonfield massacre on Halloween night, Michael Myers is still alive but comma-tized in a section of a secure federal prison.

Someone decides it's a good idea to transport him back to Smith's Grove Mental Institute (where he was previously incarcerated as a child). During transportation, Michael over hears one of the doctors in the vehicle mention that Laurie had a daughter that lived in Haddonfield. Laurie was his sister...so her daughter is his niece. This triggers Mikey to come out of his coma and wreck some havoc causing the vehicle to crash and allow him to escape.

If you haven’t guessed it already…Michael returns to Haddonfield to kill his niece, Jamie. Emergency response teams to the crash believe everyone in the crash to have died in an explosion...case closed. One person doesn't believe this was a freak accident and believes that Michael still lives and that person is none other than...drum roll please...Dr. Loomis.

Yep. The good ole' doctor returns for the fourth installment of Halloween. Just like Mikey, he was presumed dead in the explosion at the end of Halloween 2. But amazing script writing and ingenuity brought them both back to the big screen.

Dr. Loomis finds out that the feds transported him with out his permission and tracks down the convoy only to be a step or two behind them. He's the only one that believes Mikey lived the crash and will once again return to Haddonfield.

“He’s a monster!” as Dr. Loomis repeats many, many times through out the Halloween movies. We love him...don't we?

Michael returns home to find his niece and promptly kills the local police, knocks out the telephones and power through out the city. Man he’s talented! Haddonfield is now helpless and out of contact with the world as Mikey strolls the streets looking for his niece.

Dr. Loomis arrives just in the nick of time to warn everyone...at least the one's left. Loomis, Jamie, her foster sister (Rachel), two remaining cops, and a couple of token kids decide to barricade themselves in a house while they wait for the State Police to show up and save them from Mikey.

WTF? Two local police “hide” inside a house waiting for back up? It’s called, why don’t you get in your F*CKIN’ cars and drive the hell out of dodge! Or use your training and take the mother f*cker out!

Moving on…Michael picks off the people in the house one by one (funny how that happens) and then Jamie and Rachel flee the house to hide in the local school. Why? I don't know. But guess who tracks them down in the school? Shortly afterwards the action moves on to the road with a bunch of Michael Myers Mob-Lynchers. Before we know it, the escape car crashes, Michael gets run over, shot, and blown up into a mine shaft/hole in the ground…the end. Or is it?

Villain:

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers does what the title says...returns Mikey to the big screen. Forget the P.O.S. (piece of sh*t) called Halloween 3, H4:TROMM brings the franchise back on track. Mikey finds himself back as the headline for part 4 but I have to say, he looked a little different/weird at times in the film.

Actor George Wilbur gets the nod to portray the notorious Michael Myers. Like I mentioned, he looked a little "off" in the film. Mikey is not as scary or creepy as he did in the original two. I think it’s because he puts a new mask on. Studios are always f*ckin' with the designs of the masks. Wilbur kind of looked like Uncle Fester in the shoulders at times.

Just like how Jason became undestructable in Part 6, Michael finds himself carrying that persona in this one. No single bullet can stop him. The only way to defeat Mikey is to out run him.

Cast:

Just when we thought that we had seen the last of Dr. Loomis...they squeezed some more blood from the tulip. Loomis becomes even more over the top "Mikey is a monster!" in this film. I didn't think that was even possible, but Loomis starts to become more annoying as these sequels pile up. Loomis once again is always in the wrong place at the wrong time when it comes to finding Mikey.

Halloween 4 brought in a cheap addition of Mikey's “niece” Jamie, but since it created a role for the beautiful Danielle Harris to blossom in, I gave it a pass. Harris was young back then (Pictured right), but she grows up fairly well. Jamie's backstory is very vague, leaving us knowing that she is the child of Laurie Strode, who had died in a car accident. Don't worry when H20 comes along, everything about this storyline and past is completely ignored.

The rest of the bunch was not too terrible to watch on screen considering the story they had to work with. They were just a bunch of stereotypical "insert here" deaths for Mikey. Instead of the Sheriff Brackett and daughter Annie in the original two, we get Sheriff Meeker and his daughter Kelly. If it looks like a rip off and smells like a rip off then it probably is a rip off.

I also noticed that the character of Brady had a huge uni-brow. That's all I could picture every time he popped up on the screen, I just starred at it in "aw". Uni-brow's suck.

SFX/Gore:

Halloween 4 equaled the total of the first two films by adding sixteen deaths to the total in the film. Not bad. But there were not a whole lot of gore in the deaths or period. Many of the deaths in the film were "off screen" or just “flashed by” (quick glance as they died and camera moved on).

Michael Bay would be proud as the film featured a couple of special effects spectacular explosions in the film...okay just kidding, they weren't anything to get all excited about. In fact they were pretty cheesy in their own doing.

The FX for the film weren't all that great as we see in the roof sequence towards the end. The roof was supposed to be wet from rain and such, but I couln't tell. It was actually pointed out to me when I was watching the "Making of..." DVD extra on the film. If it was pulled off right, the direction of a slick roof was to make everyone's footing hard handling due to the slickness. I guess I completely missed that one. Thank God for DVD extras.

TNA:

Halloween 4's eye candy included four hot chicks (Shark Factor)…and a reverse Shark Factor. What’s a reverse Shark Factor? Danielle Harris was like ten in the film, and she’s smokin’ hot now (Pictured left) at the age of 30. She’s similar to my age, so I’ll count her as a hot chick.

The Return of Mikey featured one sex act and a partial set of boobies in it. Kathleen Kinmont from Renegade T.V. series (pictured below) tries to show off her twins, but the lighting and camera work prevents us from getting a good look at them. By the way do you remember the T.V. series Renegade? Lorenzo Lamas, Bobby Sixkiller...ringing any bells?

T.Gun's Take:

Halloween 4 marked the triumphant return of Michael Myers back to Haddonfield to try and kill yet another relative that he wouldn't know what they looked like. How original. At least they tried to fill in some gaps and create a storyline after being away for 10 years...only to say a big "F-you!" when H20 hits 10 more years later.

One of my biggest gripes came with the idea of “shacking up” in a house while they wait for help. Man that was dumb. For crying out loud, hit the road! This was only to be topped by an even dumber move when they fled to the school. Come on, whose gonna hide in a school at ten o’clock at night. School's locked up at night...no one's there! Doesn’t that sound like a trap…one way in, one way out?

I did like the nice twist at the end of the film. It paid some good homage to the original film. The twist also proves a little something about hereditary. I actually didn't expect that from a film that featured countless minutes of B.S.

Hey, at least the franchise got back on track after that P.O.S. named Halloween 3. The Return of Michael Myers wasn't horribly bad, it was just enough to satisfy a little Mikey craving. They did bring Mikey back into the mix and introduced a new character storyline for the next film or two. Really...who didn’t see a sequel coming on?

Misc. Movie Trivia:
- Halloween 4 opened Oct. 23, 1988 and made $17.7 million ($6.8 opening weekend)
- Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch...pictured below) auditioned for the role of Jamie

- Was filmed in springtime so...leaves were imported and squash was painted orange to look like pumpkins

Review #35: Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)

Cast/Notable Credits:
Dominique Otherin-Girad (Director): Omen 4 (1991)

Donald Pleasence (Dr. Loomis):
Halloween, Halloween 2, Halloween 4, and Halloween 6

Danielle Harris (Jamie):
Halloween 4, and Halloween, Urban Legend

Ellie Cornell (Rachel):
Halloween 4

Beau Starr (Sheriff Meeker):
Halloween 4

Don Shanks (Michael Myers): Urban Legends 3 (2005)

Wendy Kaplan (Tina): Blood Deep (2005)

Matthew Walker (Spitz):
Child’s Play 3

Trailer:

Plot:

You can tell they really, really rushed this sequel to the big screen. At the end of Halloween 4, Michael has fallen into a mineshaft and the cops blow up the shaft finally killing Michael and sending him to hell...Wrong!

The beginning of part 5 reenacts of the ending of part 4, with Michael crawling out a hole of the mineshaft that leads to a river. Mikey easily escapes the explosion but is severely injured as he falls into the water of the river. The river carries him down stream miles and miles, until a bum comes across him and “nurses” Mikey back to health. That little clever Michael!

One year later (the next Halloween), Mikey returns to Haddonfield to "finish" the job on his niece Jamie. Jamie has become mute because of the traumatizing events from the last film...and killing your foster mother might have played a part of it. Jamie was placed in a children’s mental hospital and has been there since. Oh…one other thing...she’s psychically linked with Mikey. Huh? I guess they film makers didn't pay attention to the psychic disaster in Friday the 13th Part 7.

Anyway, Jamie can see what Mikey sees in her visions. Dr. Loomis is Jamie’s doctor at the hospital, and he knows that Michael still lives and knows that Jamie is somehow linked with Mikey. But Jamie is still traumatized and cannot speak. Once again everyone dismisses Loomis's claims that Mikey's coming back.

Jamie’s stepsister, Rachel, returns to the film and visits Jamie at the hospital before Mikey dispatches her five minutes later at her house. That was a waste of a bringing back a character. The rest of the film Mikey stalks Rachel’s friends (Tina, Samantha, and others that didn't die in Part 4) while tracking down Jamie.

Also some mysterious dude wearing black boots and dressed in a black trench coat and has a black hat...like in V for Vendetta... pops up in random scenes and does nothing . We never see his/her’s face, but the director hints at his presence through out the film...wait until Part 6 for more understanding about this character.

Mikey kills people at a Halloween party on a farm as Jamie runs over to the farm to save Tina. Remember, she sees what Mikey sees, so she knows where Mikey is. I wonder if she sees him take a piss? Probably not.

Eventually, Dr. Loomis decides to trap Mikey by using Jamie as bait. Dr. Loomis, the town’s police department, and Jamie decided to trap Mikey by having Jamie hang out at the Old Myer’s house in his sister’s bedroom and wait for Mikey to make an enterance. The police hide out in the bushes and shadows of the house waiting for Mikey to show up so they can nail him.

Somehow the police get “duped” into responding on a disturbance call at the children’s hospital where Jamie lives and they ALL take off leaving Dr. Loomis, Jamie and some random cop (or Red Shirt Ensign Johnson in Star Trek land) behind at the house. Guess who’s waiting for the cops to leave? Wait, doesn't Jamie see what Mikey sees? Couldn't she have warned them? Oh well, plot hole.

Mikey makes his move onto Jamie, and eventually Dr. Loomis captures Mikey with a fishing net and tranquilizer darts. Yes, it was a stellar plan of capture. Hopefully Loomis isn't expecting to go hunting any time soon.

Mikey gets captured and the police lock him up in a cell at the local police station. Mikey sits quietly in a cell that is guarded by cops. Movie over.

Well, not yet. Jamie is escorted out of the police station with a police man for a ride home when the film's mysterious black boot wearing character enters the police station as they leave.

Moments later, an explosion happens which is then followed by many, many gun shots. The cop escorting Jamie leaves her in a police car and enters into the “war zone”. A few minutes pass, and Jamie decides to enter the police station. She sees eight or ten dead cops and Mikey’s cell in now empty. Now end of film. WTF? Where the hell did that come from? That was just too f*ckin' bizarre. My head hurts. The film ends like some episode of the X-files.

Villain:

Michael Myers returns, but just like Part 4, does look all that scary or creepy. Mikey is recasted and is played by Don Shanks. I don't know why Mikey seems to be going through numerous actors, but he does.

Also Mikey supports some random tattoo on his wrist now. I wonder if we'll learn the truth about the tattoo? Like the episode of Lost, that explained Jack's tattoo. That episode sucked. Maybe the next movie might explain it.

Cast:

The Dr. Loomis character has officially gotten “old”. By now, you would figure that on Halloween night in Haddonfield you should probably take an extended vacation for a couple days from the town.

If you’re Dr. Loomis, just hang around the Myer’s house, and you’ll find Michael at some point. Or at least hang around the people he’s been obsessing over. Especially if you’re a know-it-all-Michael-Myers-psychologist-expert. That tactic might actually save some lives.

Danielle Harris is still pretty young, as she acts like a scared mute for the majority of the film. Her role is limited compared to the last movie, but at least it's better than her fate for the next movie.

The rest of the cast was a bunch of disposable teens or twenty somethings playing teens. There were two bumbling idiot cops that were assigned to follow Tina in the film. The first time they appeared, there was a clown music theme edited in the background to “enhance” their goofiness. What kind of bush league crap is that?! Why is it that the majority of horror movies make cops out to be idiots?

SFX/Gore:

I counted somewhere around 19 deaths in the film. It was hard to tell with the police station episode. It's not as if the audience gets 19 individual killings, a lot of them were group deaths. Bummer. There was no death that really stood out from the rest. I guess if I had to pick a cool death, then it would have been the pitch fork in the barn.

TNA:

Halloween 5 gave the male viewers four hot chicks (Shark Factor on 3/Reverse on 1) to look at. The film did have a sex scene that didn't feature any of the twins. BOO!The sex scene was promising, but it didn’t deliver the goods. There was even a shower scene but still...NO boobs.

One of the hot chicks, Tamara Glynn was a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader during the 1991 season. Not this one though. How 'bout them Cowboys?!

T.Gun's Take:

H5: The Revenge of Mikey is pretty much a carbon copy of previous Halloweens especially Halloween 4. Every time one of those pops up on AMC or some other channel, I have problems figuring out which one it is because they're so similar.

At least until the end of the film hits…then WTF? Halloween 5 had some of the most bizarre, random sh*t going on here. Honestly, I was thinking of Creighton Duke the Bounty Hunter from Jason Goes to Hell was the mysterious man in black. That would have been awesome, unfortunately the movie and character was made four years later. But it still would have been kick *ss. Since Halloween 4 had a female from the Renegade T.V. series, here's one of the male bounty hunters from the series.

What else can I add, other than this movie kind of...sucked. I'm also a little sick of children out running a maniac driving a car through the field after them. That's just unrealistic. Well...as if an unstoppable killer who keeps returning isn't realistic either. But that's beside the point, horror movies need that.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers is a flop in my opinion. It had a few good ideas hidden between the onslaught of crap, but overall, the movie sucked. If you think that was an understatement, just wait for Part 6's review, that movie sucked even worse. To make things better...here's a lady of a Dallas Cowboy QB!

Misc. Movie Trivia:
- Halloween 5 opened on Oct. 15, 1989 and made $11.6 million at the box office ($6.3 opening weekend)
- Jamie was originally stabbed in the leg during the laundry chute scene but that was changed due to MPAA ratings. It was deemed "too disturbing".

Review #36: Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)

Cast/Notable Credits:
Joe Chappelle (Director): Phantoms (1998), Skull 2 (2002), Hellraiser 4 (1996)

Plot:

Three words: What the hell? Hmm…let’s see, where should I begin? Crap. Crap. And more crap. For Christ’s sake, you had six years to put this baby together! And THIS is
what they came up with? A midget trying to pleasure himself with the tube of a vaccumm would have been more entertaining to watch than this pile of sh*t.

The Curse of Michael Myers starts with an opening scene like this: some cult looking figures...SDW's (Satanic Devil Worshippers!)...has a chick strapped down to a table giving birth to a child. Well it's somewhat erotic and interesting, but the film turns for the worse. By the way, the chick strapped down turns out to be Jamie Lloyd character from the past two movies...you know Mikey's niece. Here's where a series of mistakes starts off:

Mistake #1: Making the film. A little too late now.

Mistake #2: Recasting Jamie Lloyd.

Yep. It's not the lovely Danielle Harris playing the role of Jamie this time. Instead, J.C. Brandy (pictured right) takes the part. The new girl playing Jamie looks way older than what the time-line suggests.

Danielle wanted to play the part, but the studio didn’t want to cough up the $5,000 price tag she wanted to do the film. Cheap bastards, I would have paid the 5K. I'm just saying, "Help a girl out in her efforts for college." 5K will barely cover a year...or sememster depending on the type of school.

Mistake #3: Little Jamie “knocked up” giving birth?

Once again...what the hell? The film doesn't even go into any of the detail of how it came to be. It's just poor ole' Jamie strapped to a table ready to pop out a kid.

The child pops out and...remember that tattoo I was talking about in Part 5? Well the “cult” members paint that same tattoo on the baby’s chest in blood. Oh no! The baby's been marked. It's the devil's mark or something like that.

A couple of minutes later one of the chick cult members frees Jamie and gives her back the baby. She then tells her to escape and escorts her through some labryinth of basement hallways out of the place. She stops and tells Jamie to “go that way” as we hear screams of others in the background.

Mistake #4: This cult chick points the way out for Jamie, but instead of going with her, she stands around looking scared until Mikey pops up and kills her.

Really? If you're leading a daring escape from a bunch of SDW's and a lurking Michael Myers, why wouldn't you take off? Nope...too easy. The chick could have left with Jamie, but for no reason at all she stays behind for an extra minute to get diced up by Mikey. Is that what a Good Samaritan cult member does in a daring escape? Why didn’t she leave with Jamie? There was no reason to be a sacrificial lamb!

Now that Mikey has disposed of the SDW chick...wait a second. Where did Mikey come from? What's been the deal with him? We haven't seen or heard from him in 6 years and BOOM! there he is killing off SDW's.

Jamie escapes the basement dungeon with baby in tow, and she runs outside the complex and it is revealed to us that the place was the Smith’s Grove Mental Institute. OMG...the plot thickens!

Jamie hops in a truck with the baby and drives off down the road. Okay, no problem with that…but after driving a little bit, she decides to park at the bus station to catch a bus.

Mistake #5: Stopping to take a bus.

WHAT!!? You have a truck, why do you need to take a bus? Better yet, why stop? This move doesn't make sense.

Jamie enters the bus station and...no one’s there. The bus stop is literally deserted. The time is around midnight and a sign on the front counter reads “Back in 20”. Apparently the clerk took off for dinner.

Jamie overhears the radio playing over the station's speakers and decides to call into a radio show and ask for Dr. Loomis's help. Hopefully he's even listening to the broadcast.

What d'ya know...he WAS listening to the program. Apparently everyone in Haddonfield listens to this radio show as...get this...Tommy Doyle (the babysitting kid from the first movie) is also listening to the show and hears Jamie's plea for help.

Tommy Doyle...Rrr-RIGHT. Apparently he’s been a hermit, hiding in a bedroom across the street from the Myers house all these years waiting for Michael to come back. What he was waiting for, I don't know. It's not like he's had a few sequels to do anything about it. I call this LAZY writing...don’t worry it gets worse. I’ve given up on the mistake count.

Moving on…Uber Tracker Michael has tracked Jamie down to the vacant bus station while following her in a stolen Smith's Grove van. Mikey enters the station looking for Jamie and the child.

Jamie runs down stairs to the restrooms and hides. Mikey follows down and in an attempt to build up suspense for the audience, the movie pulls one of those “which bathroom stall is the person hiding in” sequence.

Answer: None. The last stall reveals that she broke a window above the stall to escape. Aw, those clever script writers!

Quick note to self: why is there a window looking down on the basement bathroom stall. Does this not cry out for some pervert to hang around the bus station to peek down into? I got you script writers!

Jamie hops back into the truck and takes off. Thus proving my exact point and question: Why’d you even stop in the first place?

Jamie's back driving down the dark and isolated road in the middle of nowhere...and Michael has already caught up to her in the van. She must really suck at driving to be caught twice now by a psycho driving a van. Mikey runs her truck off the road with his van onto a farm.

Jamie flees the vehicle leaving the baby wrapped in a blanket on the front seat and hides behind haystacks in the barn. Eventually Mikey finds her hiding and gruesomely kills her. This is how Jamie goes out? What a rip off! After the past two movies of trying to get to Jamie, Mikey finally "ofts" her with some farm equipment. BULL SH*T!

Now I really don't care about this movie...but getting back to the plot...Mikey heads back to the truck for the baby. If you haven’t figured out the relationship yet, then:

Michael Myers & Laurie Strode = Brother & Sister
Jamie is Laurie’s daughter = Michael’s niece
Jamie’s child = Michael’s great nephew?

Michael picks up the blanket containing the baby and discovers a roll of paper towels. Oh no, where did the baby go? Who cares at this point?

After all that excitement...the film moves back to Haddonfield where the Strode’s have just finished moving into the Myers house. Yes the Strode family. The brother of Laurie Strode’s father and family moving INTO the Myers house.

You got to be f*ckin' kidding me.

Wait...what I really mean is what brilliant writing! Really. Let’s recap what the movie has brought to the table already:

  1. Jamie (Michael’s niece) re-casted, some how knocked up and given birth to Michael’s great nephew, and oh…dead.

  2. Smith’s Grove Mental Institute (from original) is harboring cult activities.

  3. Return of Tommy Doyle…who lives across the street from the Myers house now. Probably wets his bed too.

  4. Yet again the return of Dr. Loomis. FYI: Donald Pleasence died during making of film.

  5. Laurie Strode's uncle and family moving into the Myer's house.

Lazy writing I say. LAZY! At least we don’t have psychic powers any more. Or do we? Oh yeah, last time I check wasn’t Jamie linked to what Mikey saw? How could she not know he was in pursuit of her? Sigh! I guess it doesn’t matter anymore.

The new Strode’s have three kids (Laurie’s cousins), the youngest happens to be the "target" for the cult. Apparently he’s got the “evil gene” in him, making him a hot commodity.

Speaking of the kids, I don't know about you, but if I was one of them and found out that I was moving into the MYERS house after all the murders and crap over the years...and the fact that Mikey's been missing for a while, I would be like:

"F*ck that. I ain't movin' my ass into that house!"

Meanwhile, Tommy tracks Jamie’s phone call to the radio station down to the bus station. Kind
of like in the movie “The Fuguitve”, where the special agents filters out the sounds of a train through a tape recorder. Well Tommy does something to the same degree. Don’t ask me, I didn’t write the movie.

Tommy gets to the bus station and finds the phone booth where Jamie made the call to the radio station. Inside the booth, Tommy finds some blood still hanging around. He follows the blood trail down to the basement restroom and finds the baby hidden in a cleaning supply cabinet. I guess the bus station doesn’t believe in janitors. They must love having blood trails in their stations so Super Slueths can trace Jamie's steps.

Tommy decides to bring the baby to the local hospital to have it checked out. At the hospital he runs into Dr. Loomis. How convienent.

Back on the Mikey front...Mikey is pissed that someone’s living in his house. Why? If you think about it, the Strodes are kind of like his distant family. Who better to own the family pad than...family?

Typical Halloween B.S. plot filler happens as Mikey stalks, kills kids having sex in his house. Let’s skip past all that mumbo jumbo and dive into the SDW's “cult” plot.

Remember me mentioning a mysterious dude dressed in black in last film? You know, the one who blew up the cop shop to free Mikey…V for Vendetta…yeah that guy. I think we need something pleasurable to recharge the brain stems...here's a picture of Natalie Portman who also starred in V for Vendetta.

The mysterious man in black ends up being Dr. Wynn. Who the hell is Dr. Wynn? Well, Dr. Wynn is the head cheese at Smith’s Grove Mental Hospital. Smith's Grove has been the place where Mikey has spent a lot of his time (outside of killing people in Haddonfield). Mikey once escaped Smith's Grove to start his legacy.

Dr. Wynn leads a mysterious cult full of other SDW's. They all know that the tattoo that Michael wears on his arm (the tattoo introduced in Halloween 5)
is actually the mark of the devil...or some bull sh*t like that.

This cult protects Mikey and they’re willing to make sacrifices on his behalf to please the “unholy one”. If you didn’t understand that…well neither did I. And I WATCHED the movie. The quick low down from my perspective is that a cult of SDW's protect Mikey at all costs. Yep. The big mystery is solved. SDW's are the masterminds that have protected Mikey in all these movies. Yeah, let's see you try and work with that Mr. Rob Zombie when you do your remake.

Eventually, Kara Strode (Laurie’s cousin), Tommy Doyle, Danny Strode (the cousin with the "evil" gene) and the baby all get captured and brought to the dungeons of Smith’s Grove. The SDW's want to sacrifice the baby or study it. At this point my head just hurts from thinking about it.

Either way...bottom line is that Mikey tracks everyone back to Smith's Grove's cult basement and slaughters the SDW's as Kara and Tommy duel Mikey to the death while protecting the two kids (the baby and the "evil cousin").

Tommy beats Mikey to a pulp with a pipe and they escape. While exiting, they bump into Dr. Loomis. Loomis goes down into the basement to find Mikey. We hear screams in the distance and the movie goes black. A “In memory of Donald Pleasence” shows up on the screen and we have...End film. Insert gun into mouth.

Villain:

Mikey looked a little bit better (costume-wise) in this movie compared to the last couple. George Wilbur dones the mask of Michael again. After a one film hiatus, he returns to the iconic role. Why there was a break in the action...I don't know.

For some reason with the whole cult thing going on in the background, I lost track of Michael being the bad guy. I know he is the bad dude for the franchise and he killed his fair share, but it just seemed like he took a back seat in this one.

Cast:

Paul Rudd played the once babysat by Laurie Strode now grown up trying to hook up with her cousin, Tommy Doyle. Who’s Paul Rudd? Just in case you don't know, he commonly has roles in the Judd Apatow comedy films.

Rudd has been spitting out roles in films like two to three a year, but as of this review he had most recently he played the character of Pete in Knocked Up. You know the fantasy baseball playing husband who had to sneak out from his wife to see Spidey 3. Here's a picture of the amazingly hot Alicia Silverstone who co-starred with Rudd in another 1995 film called "Clueless".

Donald Pleasence returns for the last time as the legendary Dr. Loomis, Michael's childhood psychiatrist. Donald unfortunately passes away during filming which resulted in his character's appearances and disappearances through out the film. Also the producers had to make a vague ending of the film with his character. I guess you do the best you can with what you have to work with.

Marianne Hagan plays the film's lead female, Kara Strode. Kara is the never-before-heard-of cousin of Laurie Strode. Hagan's character is, well...blah. She doesn't really bring anything new to the table and I never really felt an emotional bond with her as a viewer. Kara's just another character who stars in a single film and is never mentioned afterwards.

SFX/Gore:

In Halloween 6 I counted fifteen total deaths. I admit...I maybe a little off with the whole cult massacre thing in the basement. By that point in the film I didn't really care to keep track who's who anymore. The goriest death in the film: Jamie's demise in the barn. That's too bad. For one...she died. Secondly, it was like in the first fifteen minutes of the film leaving the rest to be undesired.

TNA:

What the film lacked in everything else, it tried to make up for everything in it's
TNA category. Halloween 6 featured four hot chicks (Shark Factor), shower scene, sex act, a little bondage, and a set of BOOBS! Bravo!

Unfortunately, Marianne Hagan (pictured right) doesn't show off the goods but someone else does though. I needed an extra emphasis on this category and eye candy to wash away the "burn" the movie gave my eyes.

T.Gun's Take:

After watching all the Halloween movies the past couple of weeks, I was starting to like them more and more…until these last two. Oh my God, Part 5 and 6 sucked the life out of me. I grew stupider by the minute.

At least the Friday films were having fun with their umpteenth sequels and they were enjoyable to watch. But Halloween seemed to be getting progressively worse by the sequel. The acting, the script, you name it...it just got worse.

Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers is by far the worst of the Halloweens that features Mikey in them. Halloween 3 still takes the cake, but it didn't have Mikey in it. Halloween 6 is just an awful head scratcher that makes little sense at times. Thank H2O for the revival of the franchise.

If you want to see a movie that will make your head hurt, then I recommend checking this one out. Even for hardcore Halloween fans, this film is tough to swallow.

Misc. Movie Trivia:
- Halloween 6 opened on October 1, 1995 and made $15.1 million at the box office ($8.5 million opening weekend)
- Script went through 11 different drafts (And they picked that one…man, what were the others like?)
- Denise Richards turned down the role of Beth (Amazingly a nice career move)
- Film went through many re-shoots and re-writes
- Cast hated the final version of the film (what a coincidence, so did I)
